Musebot Agents by Oscar Puerto
A jazz band of autonomous agents. They agree who plays the intro, play the tune together, and trade solos, handing the lead from one musician to the next. Each musician is really four agents: a musician, a composer, a synchronizer and an ensemble assistant.
This is a working demonstration of research on Artificial Musical Intelligence carried out at Reykjavik University. In the Musebot Ensemble platform, musical agents can only talk to a central conductor. Here they also talk to each other, negotiating and coordinating the way the musicians of a jazz quartet do, using standard agent protocols (FIPA Contract Net, Request and Query) on the JADE agent platform. The chord chart and the captions below show those conversations as they happen.

Tempo changes apply from the next part of the tune. Volume and mute are heard within about a bar.

The piano and the bass are recordings shared under open licences, played with Tone.js (MIT licence), which also provides the effects (compression, equalisation, reverb, limiter). The sax and the drums are synthesized.
